The Lincoln Center Classic Car Show is Friday, August 17, 2018. The annual car show has become a premier show in the greater Northern California area, boasting over 220 classic cars, 1976 or older that are set to be showcased at Lincoln Center this year. Car enthusiasts will slowly transform Lincoln Center into a retro scene filled with classic cars and good company.
Gary Cox, Debbie Bond, of American Hearing Aids, father Gary Cox started the car show back in the 1960s when he owned and operated Lincoln Automotive and is still a big part of the show today. Cox, his family, and a hard-working group of volunteers coordinate the parking, making sure the classic cars are parked effectively before the show starts, stating “the show would not be possible without them,” —which we can attest is 100% true. The car show has gained popularity and attendance quite remarkably, since its humble beginnings.
Cox reminisces about the first car show, nearly 60 years ago, “It was 1967. I started out with a friend of mine with about 35 cars. We decided to continue, and we put on 13 shows in 13 years.”
Proceeds from the car show entries benefit the Lincoln Center Scholarship Fund, which supports high school seniors in San Joaquin County. This family friendly event is open to all ages and free to the community. The evening will wrap up with a beautiful firework show sponsored by Visit Stockton. We would like to thank Wes Rhea, CEO of Visit Stockton, and his team, for being committed to supporting and promoting the community through events like these. Wes has attended the Car Show for the last six-seven years with his son and was the 2015 Car Show Honoree. He proudly told us how much he and his son enjoy the great looking cars, the free popcorn and love the walkable, fun community environment. He says, “You see everybody you know there!”
This year’s Car Show Honoree is Erik Newman, City of Stockton Fire Chief, which we are beyond excited for. Mark your calendars for the fireworks show, live music by The Summit Band, Rouge The Band, Dave and The Box and Mondo, as well as tons of food, a Midgley’s Public House beer garden, and of course, the Fun Slide, will make this a night worth remembering!
